NYT Accused of Editing Trump’s Quote To Purposefully Mislead Their Readers

The media covering the coronavirus is the absolute WORST part of this whole pandemic.

Trump has been doing daily press conferences to help provide regular updates for the nation regarding coronavirus.

They take everything that Trump says and spins it to fit their narrative or completely misconstrue his advice to send the country into a panic. Honestly, if you hate the President, this is the best-case strategy for them if they want to keep their base intact.

Their readers don’t go for outside sources. They read these articles as actual truth with no double-checking. NYT knows this, and that is why they continue to spin their narratives without consequences.

Trump told the Governors of all States that the government would do everything they can to help them, but if they can work directly with manufacturers, it will be more comfortable and faster for them.

Trump’s direct quote:

“Respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment – try getting it yourselves. We will be backing you, but try getting it yourselves. Point of sales, much better, much more direct if you can get it yourself.”

The NYT’s article:

“Hours earlier, Mr. Trump told a group of governors they should not wait for the federal government to fill the growing demand for respirators needed to help people diagnosed with coronavirus.
“Respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment — try getting it yourselves,” Mr. Trump told the governors during the conference call, a recording of which was shared with The New York Times.”

First, it’s not “Mr. Trump,” its President Trump.

From Trump’s comment to what made it into the article is already watered down and not at all the full context of his message.

NYT:

“The suggestion surprised some of the governors, who have been scrambling to contain the outbreak and looking to the federal government for help with equipment, personnel and financial aid.”

Most messages coming from the various state Governors that have been hit hard by coronavirus is positive. I have a hard time believing that the Governors would be surprised that it would be more efficient to get their supplies directly from the marketplace instead of using the bloated Government as their middleman.

To make matters worse, Julie Bosman (national correspondent for the NYT) tweeted this:

She completely BUTCHERED Trump’s comment in order to make it sound to her readers that Trump didn’t care about the Governors and their ability to get the supplies they need.

The reality is that what Trump and his coronavirus task force are doing is going to help flatten the curve. They are taking drastic measures to stop the spread. I wrote about all the things Trump has done to stop the spread, here.

Trump responds to the NYT:

Recap:

Things Trump has done since the start of coronavirus:

  1. Closed the borders to China before any other country
  2. Increase production of medical equipment such as masks, gloves, and respirators
  3. Increased production of testing kits and created a shorter result time
  4. Brought in the private sector to help assist the government with drive-thru virus check lanes, supplies, production, and website creation
